Subject: cleanup compilation warnings (#477) Index: src/, src/bin, src/games, src/usr.bin, src/usr.sbin Description: 1) Recompiling the system from sources emits numerous warning errors. Almost of these are pointer / int in nature and are resolved by inserting "(int)". 2) Sometimes 'makw' will not think files need to be recompiled or that libraries do not need to be rebuilt when member object files have been created. Repeat-By: Observation. 1) cd /usr/src make build (note the warning errors) 2) 'make' uses the timestamps of files to determine if a target needs to be (re)built. In the past file creation involved several seeks and a rotation or two of slow disks so multiple file creations per second rarely (if ever) happened. But when 2.11BSD runs in a simulator on a very fast system using solid-state-disks many files can be created in a second. This can cause make to not (re)build targets because they are up-to-date. Fix: Thanks to bqt@softjar.se for the research and initial patch submission. 1) Add (int) as needed to 15 files. As part of the cleanup the 'sccsid' strings were properly conditonalized. 2) In one Makefile a 'sleep 1' is added. It is invoked infrequently in a 'FRC' target but provides enough time to maintain a one second difference in critical files' timestamps. To install this patch cut where indicated and save to a file (/tmp/477) Then: cd / patch -p0 < /tmp/477 It is not required to recompile these programs: expr lex struct bc but doing so will reduce their D-space size.
